Make connections

Hello everyone, I hope that you enjoyed seeing the Museum of Contemporary photography. Running with the theme of making connections between yourself and the artwork you encounter daily, as well as sharing your envisioned "special place", we would like for you to search the internet for a single image that closely represents that special place or you in someway. Post the image, and write a thorough, two-paragraph entry describing your choice of image completely.

  1. I DIDNT ACTUALLY MAKE A HAPPY PLACE YESTERDAY I THOUGHT OF SOMETHING THAT MADE ME HAPPY WHICH WAS MY SKELETON KEY. I GUESS THE SKELETON KEY COULD BE MY HAPPY PLACE. I WANT MY FUTURE TO BE OPEN AND SINCE A SKELETON KEY OPENS ALL DOORS I WOULD USE IT TO OPEN MY LIFE. THERES NO DOOR IN THE HOUSE THAT THE KEY CANT OPEN SO TO ME THATS REALLY WEIRD. WHO ACTUALY CAME UP WITH A KEY? IDK BUT THEY HAD TO HAVE BEEN SMART!

MY KEY WOULD BE REALLY COLORFUL EXCEPT FOR THE RIDGES BECAUSE YOU EXPECT YOUR LIFE TO BE COLORFUL AND EVERYONES LIFE ISNT PERFECT. THE BLACK REPRESENTS THE UNPERFECT LIVES AND THE COLOR IS WHAT EVERYONE DREAMS OF. THE RIDGES ARE DESINGED TO OPEN ANY DOOR BECAUSE I WANT EVERYONE TO BE ABLE TO USE IT. IT'LL BE GIGANTIC BECAUSE IT TAKES STEPS TO GET YOUR LIFE TOGETHER BUT ONCE YOUR READY TO EXCEPT THAT CHALLENGE IT'LL EASILY FIT IN YOUR POCKET.

  2. The picture I chose is a view of downtown Tokyo during nighttime. There are about four buildings lined up next to each other. All of them are flashing those oh so bright neon colored signs, featuring various advertisements. A smaller building in the picture even has a billboard of Popeye and Olive. Perhaps it is to promote spinach.

I've chosen this picture because it best represents the special, happy place. Tokyo, or rather Japan in general, is just a really fun city and country. You can always find something to do whether you're young or old and you can just be yourself. It's definitely my happy place because I love everything about Japan from history, cuisine, religion, anime, the gardens, the fact that their steering wheels are on the right side of their vehicles, etc. Anything you name it. I'm crazy for Japan.

  3. I chose the image of a cloudy sunset day at the beach. the day is turning to night and the sun is setting behind the clouds, the sun, the many colors of the sunset relfecting off the water. There is differetn shades of blue, dark to light and at the bottom soem orange and pink. I hear waves crashing and the seagles talking. The feeling i have is relaxed and calm.

The beach is special to me because i have had many memories there. i sit there by myself sometimes to just lay or think. i can do anything when i am at the beach.

  4. Well I think this would have alot cooler with the image, but my image is a person mixed with a cello an instument part of the orchestra family. This image discribes me because I feel as though I am a musical instrument. I was birthed into music. Almost my entire family sings and plays instruments and I am no exception.
I play the guitar, drums, bass, violin and also sing, so u can kinda see why I picked this image. Another reason is because intruments are complexed and Im a complexed person, but not in a bad way, all good complexities....

  6. As you guys already know by now, dance is my passion. I picked a painted image of a ballerina up on her pointe shoes. The colors are very warm, but at the same time the colors pop out to grab your attention. It's a warm yellow, mixed with a bright pink. When i look at this picture is just makes me smile :)
This picture connects with me in two different ways. First it connects with me by the mixture of color. Yellow and pink are two of my favortie colors. The colors are just so bright and happy to me. The second way that it connects with me is because dance is a big part of my life. The reason i picked this image is because when you look at the ballerina's face you can she the emotion that she has, and her passion for dance. Thats how i feel when i look at pictures of myself, all the love i have for dance comes out when I'm on that stage!

  7. If you look up MC Escher, you'll find his drawing "Relativity." This picture embodies everything that i represent. The endless flights of stairs that seamingly run into each other without any noticable imperfections.

The staircases are all in different dimensions and somehow mathmatically flow. Its structure meets freedom.

This picture is an amazing picture that everyone can relate to. Its important to me to seek something that is inclusive and welcoming.

  8. The image i choose i a dark room with a beam of light kind of shining in. this piece in a wya kind of speaks to me its like being locked in a room by myself where no one can hear me and feeling like I have to find my own way out.

That beam or light is in a way like my hope, my small window of oppertunity so to speak. like if i keep trying no matter how hard i fall and no matter who tells me i can or can't do it as long as i keep looking at that little light i know that one day i will be out there I will get out and i'll know that i did iT on my own!

  9. I'm tall you know my laugh when you here it and my voice stands out and my best friends are a duck and a mouse. When I attempt to do something awesome for someone I usually end up making a big mess. My being so damn cute makes up for the huge mistake.

I picked Goofy because he is the spitting image of me. He's handsome, funny, and his laugh is so awesome. I find myself being goofy all most all the time and doing my best to tell jokes that crack a smile or leave the person on the other end of the joke in tears from laughing so hard. He is a role model from young men.

  10. I chose a picture of the japanese garden in oregon. I have never been there but this looks just like the one at the Botanic Gardens which i have been to. This picture doesn't really represent me but it represents my special place. I go here whenever I feel down or when theres negativty and anger flowing through me. Sometimes after a long day of work or school me and some friends will go here and lay on the grass or sit within the trees and plants.

The picture has lost of colors like differnt shades of green, orange, red, and yellow. Once your in the center of the garden you feel as if you are in another world. There's nothing but fresh air, beauty, peace, and positive energy.

  11. The picture that best describes me is a picture that shows a person laying on the ground theres little dark and not enough light,no doors ,but yet no a room , Im holding my head cant get my thoughts together, crying inside no tear will ever fall from my eye .DEATH DEATH ITS ALL I SEE

I choose this picture because I'm very confussed about alot of stuff and never where life is to take me .. Hurting inside cause i have no by my side supporting me but my self no parents to hug , friends very little , all I have is me . Me wishing I was dead every day so I wouldnt hurt so bad, me trying to kill myself , so the pain can go away cause i feel so lost .me being mean and rude to others cause of the way I was treated. Thats the dark part of me but theres something there that keep keep telling you can make you can get through it keep trying and never give up . thats the light . so the title of the picture i picked is called The Room Wheres There No Life

  12. I chosen a picture of a crustmoon and stars at late night laying in the grass with my love one watching the stars and the moon in the sky.It smells fresh and its realy calm and relaxing. It feels like i can breathe and get my mind clear. Speaking my mind on how i feel about my day.

I like how it makes me feel because i can just get my mind clear and talking about how i feel and think to a special person who knows me and doesnt judge me for how i think. It also feels like i never want to leave i just want to stay there forever.

  13. MY PLACE IS THE TOP OF MOUNTAIN AT NIGHT. IF U LOOK DOWN YOU CAN SEE ALL THE CITY LIGHTS AS IF YOU WERE TO BE LOOKING AT THEM FROM A PLANE. IF YOU LOOK UP YOU CAN SEE THE ALL THE STARS AND THERE ISNT A CLOUD IN THE SKY. ALL YOU CAN HEAR ARE THE CRICKETS AND THE WIND. YOU FEEL A SLIGHT BREEZE CARESS YOUR LIPS TO WHERE IT FEELS SO REFRESHING LIKE A GLASS OF COLD WATER ON A HOT SUMMER DAY.
NOW I CHOSE THIS BECAUSE I THOUGHT THAT THAT HAS TO BE THE BEST SIGHT. BEING ABLE TO LOOK DOWN AND SEE A CITY AND AND LOOK UP AND SEE THE STARS. I THINK A SIGHT LIKE THAT WOULD GIVE ANYONE PEACE OF MIND.

  14. The place that I choose was the city at night in black and white. I found an imgage off of google that is exactly as I had written about yesterday.
The colors that are used in the picture are black, white, gray and white.

  16. My picture ahs a big green pasture like scenary, it has large skinny trees, and big hills. it looks some what like farmland, due to the fact that there is a one single horse, eating grass alone in this field. There are no cars or trains, or buses flying by, it looks really quiet.
I chose this picture, the countryside, as my inspiration, because it reminds me of home, in Tennessee. It is so calm, quiet, and relaxing, and that is why I love it. There are no cars horns and trains there to wake me up in the middle of the night. There is no worry about having privacy, because the houses are so far apart that no one can see what you're doing, most people are basically in seclution. It is very pretty because you can see the stars at night, instead of tall building blocking the sky. It is some place that is very special, and I really like it.

  17. in my image of this beautiful lakefront there is a sunset in the background and the water looks really amazing.this photo is almost perfect except it is not black and white but this picture comes really close to how i imagined it yesterday.the sky sets a really calm mood for the picture which is nice and everything about it is beautiful including the trees and even the sunset's reflection in the water really pops out of the picture and just cathes my eye, i can look at this pic all day.
I chose this picture because of the calm look it has to it. just looking at this picture i can just imagine i was there alone clearing my mind and being free of anything that i feel is troubling me. its places like this that just makes me feel safe like nothing in life could ever bother me. it also has a flipside just like my personality, although i like being calm and keeping to myself i also like having fun and being outgoing. there is no better place to do this but at the lakefront with friends and other peolpe in life i love.

  20. KARLA: Life is colorful and was always meant to be. I like your special pocket!

DAN: Spinach is good man, its healthier then we give it credit for. Japan is a very spirtual place, their lifestyle and beliefs show up in many cultures.

DREA: The beach is one of the few places we're allowed to have no thoughts. I enjoy the beach as well, its an excuse to be in the moment.

LeSEAN: remember that your complexity is just beginning, i like your thought process.

JASMINE: isnt it awesome to see your art in everything?!

SOFLY: Hope is like faith. If you have hope, then you automatically have faith. Its great to know that you are ambitious! nice dude.

  21. KARLA: I love your skeleton key. It's insightful.

LEO: You have a way with words that in my opinion, would want to make everyone in a room strive to become even smarter. Your a man wise beyond your ages.

KINGSTON: You're truly a unique character. I think Goofy fits you perfectly.

GRISELDA: The image you described seems very serene.

ALEX: I totally agree with you about the Botanic Gardens. It is a good place to be when you might be full of anger. That's probably one of the most calming places I've ever been.

  22. I've read some complex, well-worded posts today, as well as thoughtful comments on those posts. Good job!
I also enjoyed seeing some of your images as I walked around the computer lab this morning. Like some of you, I am especially drawn to images from nature. I also agree with Alex and Dan about the Chicago Botanic Garden. Haven't been there in years, but need to return. It's an awesome place.
Meg and I are lucky to have all of you in our Bridge section. Your enthusiasm and ideas are contagious. :-)
