Getting ready for the AIC
Hi Guys, today's field trip is to the Art Institute of Chicago. Before we go it would be great to start thinking about how you will move through the museum. Will you go to the bottom of the museum and work your way up, or run up to the top and work your way down? Will you focus on one wing (if you do I would suggest starting in the new modern wing)? Today's goal of the field trip (as always) is to find a personal connection with or interest to one specific piece. A future assignment will be to elaborate on the one specific piece of art, (so bring a PENCIL and PAPER to take notes). You might also, in this post, talk about your favorite medium of art, what type of art, or period of art do you prefer?

I'm just gonna walk around aimlessly and find stuff that catches my eye. I'll probably go to the modern wing first just to see what it's like, plus i like modern furniture so maybe they'll have some there???....then I'll just wander around again until something interesting catches my eye again.
ReplyDeleteWell, visual art is feeling. I get pulled in different directions and i dont dictate that. The best part is to allow yourself to have no pre-conceived notion that your going to have a structed way of approach. WHY!?
ReplyDeleteJust feel out the art, the more you think about what something means, the more it escapes you.
However, today im going to contridict myself. I love contemporary art, and i believe that most of what i see these days revolve around faith and fact. Whats the point in learning something that is already definate. Lets look for something unexplained!!! Its alot of fun that way and it keeps you thinking.
Its free thought at its best.
Soo I guess I'll walk my way in and start from bottom to top, see what all the museum has to offer but I be looking towards more modern day art....I like to see what new ideas artist come up with....
ReplyDeleteOmg I've been planning to go to the Art Institute FOREVER because it's always free on thursdays frm 5-8! I am just going to go everywhere around the museum, maybe I'll start at the bottom Im not sure or maybe just go all around. Whatever art I see that I like is what Im going to go to basically .Because I love all types of art and I want to have tons of art in my house. I like spiritual art not arts of houses and places those are boring to me. I like art that has a meaning with lots of colors. Also art that is realistic like sculptures and stuff. I wish I could be a artist because I would make Pretty AWESOME things. lol
ReplyDeleteI love art. I love smart people that help me understand art and show me other sides or art people who shift my view and train my eyes to look at it in different ways like, Leo. Today should be a fun filled adventure.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to start at the bottom of the museum and work my way up to the very top. If one wing of the museum stands out to me then the others, i will probably be there most of my time. The kind of art that I like is historical art, thats the art that grabs my attention. I love historical art because it tells a story and its just so interesting to me!
ReplyDeleteI love all types of art. from the pictures they really move me. most of the oictures that i see ave me thinking about myself and whats going on with me .. I cant wait to see whats in store for me today
ReplyDeleteLaSean what kind of art do you like?
ReplyDeletei never really been inside tha AIC just to look around it does seem like a really big place i think i would start from the bottom and wrk my way up i dont know why though. i guess its because i like to start everything from the begining and the type of art i usually gravitate towards is modern art. traditional and english art is beautiful also but modern art seems to work a lot better for me. i hope its not difficult to find a piece that i relate to
ReplyDeleteThis sounds exciting!!!!!! YAY!
ReplyDeleteI will probably work my way from the bottom up. It is always interesting to see how artwork transitions into another theme from floor to floor. It also adds the element of surprise and that "oh my god is the exhibit on the 40th floor going to be better than the one on the 39th!?"
I'm probably going to end up focusuing on one wing once I've seen everything else. Or maybe I'll find the piece I connect with as soon as I walk in! You never know! Whatitdo.
My favorite mediums of art? I don't really have preference, I just like whatever stands out or really catches my eye. Those can be anything from art incorporating nature to pictures of my favorite place, JAPAN!!!!!!!!
I would work myself from top to bottom to get a feel of the art. I like art that can touch you can see right through it like you can see there pain of what they are trying to come across. I like all kind of art I really don’t have a specific one I just like what ever catches my eyes.
ReplyDeleteCory! Thats awesome! applying what happens with art to external entities is hard! I love the idea and i think i will try to relate the art to other concepts that are away from me!
ReplyDeleteThanks kingston! Just remember that you have the capicity for knowledge and as long as you crave it, it will never be quinched.
ReplyDeleteMore amazingness from the Leo the Wise. I like what you said about getting pulled in different directions. Thats what art does to me sometimes
ReplyDeleteI'm just gonna walk around top and bottom to see the different kinds of art. I want to see the different styles there are. I like to see what people come up with in their art and I like sitting there thinking of what the picture means.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to start at the bottom and work my way up.
ReplyDeleteI like black and white art karla darling It can be anything as long as its in black and white its cool to me...
ReplyDeleteWell this seems like an interesting field trip... I hope. Personally, I do not know where I will start in the museum. I guess wherever my body takes me I will go... if that makes sense. Well, yea, I have never been inside the AIC, so I don't know whether or not, so I definetley do not know if I;m gonna go to one wing or explore all over.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I do not know what type of art I prefer, if anything, I'd say like sculpture or photography. Reason being, well I just do. Also, I don't know what time period of art I like, I guess I sort of like it all? I know, it's kind of weird, but oh well.
Dan, awesome man! let it take you over and get out of the way of art.
ReplyDeleteREMEMBER THIS EVERYONE
A PICTURE SAYS WITH SIGHT, WHAT WE CANT SAY WITH WORDS.
I prefer art that has movement. Which means when you look at u can feel what the artist was going through. when he/she made the picture or creation.
ReplyDeleteyou copy cat! balck and white is my favorite color thats the only reason its your favorite art sweetheart!
ReplyDeleteLeo: love the quote :)
ReplyDeleteit will be so much fun Simone don't worry about it!
ReplyDeletelol Im not a copy kat... Im a copy dog! ruff!! lol I know that was lame
ReplyDeleteIM GONNA WALK AROUND UNTIL I SEE SOME ART WORK THAT REALLY CATCHES MY ATTENTION. IM VERY OPEN MINDED WHEN IT COMES TO ART. MY FAVORITE TYPE OF ART IS GRAFFITI. I THINK ITS BEAUTIFUL. ITS A WAY FOR AN ARTIST TO AN EXPRESS HIMSELF IN THE MOST INTENSE WAY. AND I SAY INTENSE BEACUSE MOST GRAFFITI IS ON WALLS ON THE STREETS. AND BEING THAT ITS ILLEGAL, U HAVE TO CONSTANTLY BE ON THE LOOK OUT. IF ANY BODY EVER PASSES UP SOME GRAFFITI WORK ON THE STREET, I WOULD REALLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO STOP AND JUST ANALYZE IT. YOU'LL APPRECIATE IT.
ReplyDeletei think black and white painting are more deeper you can see without the color and color paintings are just brighter and shows more.
ReplyDeleteYes, I hope so dan... aniya, I haven't been inside the AIC either, let's hope it's fun!!! (I'm sure it will be)
ReplyDeletethats cause where here .. black and white is the the new
ReplyDeleteOHHH!!! ERNESTO!!! I love graffiti! I dedicated twi years of my life self-teaching myself how to do it. But thats a a REAL feeling. People already know how they want it to look and it happens! thats awesome man
ReplyDeleteLaSean...you should of kept that to yourself that was so lame
ReplyDeletei prefer blk n white too it jus has more detail to me
