Good Morning Everyone; we are halfway through our Bridge experience!
For today's post, we would like you to focus on any concerns or difficulties you are having academically, or overall in Bridge. Take a moment to really analyze yourself, your performance and your WRITING, and share with the class those things that you could improve or need help with. The second half of the post should be an intended solution for bettering yourself as a student, writer, listener. As always, we are looking for a thorough and thoughtful post!

I suck at grammar I suck at grammar I have great I ideas, but I suck at grammar. My teachers throughout the years tell me how they hear my voice in my essays, but my grammar sucks anyone willing to help out I’m hear and I’m waiting.

ReplyDeleteI have a problem with math and not to pass the blame but I think its the teachers fault. I can learn math I did well in the college I attended in TN but that teacher had the whole as one it like he knew what he was teaching but he also learned as we learn and shared new ways to learn. I guess I need a new solution to my math problem because every teacher is not alike.
ReplyDeletethis class is really not difficult for me as far as a few struggles that i have in my writing i need improvement on grammar and simple things like puntuation but i have realized during the bridge program the more i write the better it gets. even tho i dont like writing a paper everyday it really does help my writing a lot
ReplyDeleteIn bridge i'm having alot of difficulties in math! i cant stand my teacher or understand him. In English and writing i could use some improvement... Im not a good writer, i have alot of ideas but im not good at putting a paper together. when it comes to writing, my ideas and paragraphs are all over the place and unorganized.
ReplyDeleteok as you all may know i a slight problem with the lectures, namely i can't stay awake in them! its not that fact that there all boring I just have a problem with sitting in one spot for more than 20 minutes! you guys got any advice
ReplyDeleteI suck at spelling cant cant spell that well but I try hardest to do so . but who cares thats why we have the internet and dictionaries. I think thats how you spell that word.

ReplyDeleteWell I have always had trouble with math, me and math dont get along at all. English has always been my favortie subject in school, when I first started the bridge program, I didnt think that I was a good writer at all. The second week of Bridge is almost over, and I feel like I have improved my writing so much! The only thing that I have a problem with when it comes to me writing a paper, is I need help with how to structure my paper. Like I know what I want to write about, I just dont think my paper always flows together.
The way that I'm going to better myself, I'm going to get into my writing. I'm going to write more detalied papers, that show how I'm feeling at that time. The Bridge Program has really helped me alot!

the difficulties that I'm having is getting my work in on time. i usually get through half of it and then i lose focus and forget about it till late at night. i also have the shittiest computer on the planet. it crashes and freezes every time i start typing my paper, which is another reason for my inconsistency on turning stuff in. other than that i feel I'm a very good writer. i just need to organize my ideas sometimes, because i tend to go off on tangents when i write.
ReplyDeletei will be able to improve by doing my work at the library where their computers don't suck and where there are no distractions. i will start doing that after school today.
Overall my problem with my writing is catching my mistakes. I read so fast when proof reading that I dont catch the mistakes. I'm actually pretty good a grammer so thats alright. Like my spelling is very good to me. I try to limit my mistakes in my other papers in the new ones I write.
ReplyDeleteMy Math skills are horrible as soon as I take a test i cant remember anything I learned. I get all the answers right on the homework and then fail the test. It makes me so mad because I'm like WTF why cant I get the answrs right? Maybe I should take a test and figure out why I do that.
I have scattered thoughts. I want to channel those thoughts into comprehensible understanding.
ReplyDeleteI would like to listen more and absorb. Iv'e noticed that my energy is overpowering at times. The problem is, i feel like i need to have a high energy to make others feel included.
I value everyones opinions. I would have to say i need to learn to get my values and opinions out of the way, so that i can improve my understanding.
In otherwords, i would love to continue building my energy level, INCORPERATING everyones thoughts and feelings.
Academically i want to push my veiws and make them even more obscure and less generic. I want to search my inner most thoughts and bring them to light.

hey soflysohigh.....i'm the same way i can fall asleep through anything!!! i dont think theres anything you can do but to just sit up and keep your eyes open and follow the speaker...try not thinking about anything else and focus more on the lecture.

ReplyDeleteIM KIND OF GLAD THIS SUBJECT WAS BROUGHT UP. IM HAVING A HUGE PROBLEM WITH MATH. THE TEACHER MOVES TO QUICK. AND HE KIND OF LOOKS CONFUSED WHEN TEACHING AS WELL. AND HE EXPLAINS IT IN THE MOST WEIRD WAY. IM GOING TO GET SOME TUTORING TO UNDERSTAND IT BETTER. BUT DAMNIT I HATE MATH WITH A PASSION. ENGLISH IS EASY BUT I BEEN SO TIRED FROM WORKIN AFTER SCHOOL. I think that I mostly have a problem with writing. When writing a paper about something that doesn't really interest me gets really hard, expecially if it has to be a few pages long. If I take notes on the topic that I'm writing about helps me out. I think that's one way I can imporove my writing ?

ReplyDeleteGriselda: Thats how I am, if I'm writing a paper over something that I'm not interested it, its going to be really hard for me to write it. I lose my focus.
ReplyDeleteI always have the problem of repeating my words like for an example: you you and that and that for some reason I always do that. But my vocabulary stink a well. Ill read something and be like what do that means or what does that say. So my solution to understand the words I just go through the dictionary and just look up the meaning that usually helps me out. I know when I was younger I use to have the talking dictionary that just repeat the words for you and tell the meaning that really came in handy. I wonder where did that disappear = (.

ReplyDeleteFIND A REASON to be interested! Thats the best part about writing. You can find something that you want to relate it too and make it happen! If you can stretch your mind like that, there's no reason why you should remain intrigued!
ReplyDeleteIts awesome to make up your own reasoning, and even though it may seem like what your saying, isn't proven by the book, PARAPHRASE and manipulate the authors words to work for you!

ReplyDeleteThanks for your post Alex! I think that consistency in all you do here at Columbia will help get you through the semesters successfully. Teachers are going to be looking for students who are able to keep up with assignments and turn in work that is consistently thoughtful. They will also want to see students' work improving throughout the semester.
ReplyDeleteGriselda: Even though you took me to the wrong train station here’s some tips for writing long paper.
ReplyDeleteLook at the topic and think about how it makes you feel and how you can relate to it.
Then come up with some ideas you would like to use in your paper.
Then start writing and let yourself become one with your writing don’t think just write.
Then revise and rewrite and then revise and rewrite and revise and rewrite.
It will take some practice, but in time you'll find yourself growing accustom to writing long papers.
